Plovdiv is the second biggest city in Republic of Bulgaria, after Sofia. The city is an important economical ,transport , educational place for the entire country.
Plovdiv is a city with population of 376 991 people .Located in the central area of North Trakia,,on the two sides of Mariza river. It is stationed about 15 km north of Rodopa and 50 km south from the Old Mountain .The city has been build in the bases of 7 syenite hills, as a result of that ,often is called “The City on the hills” or “ the City of the seven hills”.
In 1st century of the new era ,Plovdiv is captured by the Roman empire .Also named “the roman era” (1-4th century ) left deep traces in the historical and cultural developing of ancient city of Plovdiv. The city is called Trimonzium (three hills). This 4 century period of flourish was interrupted by the invasion of the Goths ,who shattered and destroyed Plovdiv. After the fall of the Roman empire ,the city was under control of the Byzantine empire .In the borders of the first Bulgarian country ,Plovdiv was integrated by Kan Krum. In 1364 ,the city fell in Turkish authority. The legions of Lala-Shahin captured Plovdiv. A biggest part of the population was killed and the city was burned. On 01.18.1878 the Russian army, led by caption Barago , entered in the city and set it free from the 5 century slavery .
Nowadays Plovdiv is the biggest industrial and culture centre in South Bulgaria.It’s a city that combines antiquity, present and beauty A lot of universities and educational facilities ,that are famous with their traditions ,are placed in Plovdiv. But Plovdiv owes the majority of it is fame to the International fair, which is being held annually and where representatives of every country can meet.
Also Plovdiv is famous with the old town ,witch is located in the centre of the city. Abundanted with its own style ,the old town offers Plovdiv more from the spirit of revival.
